THE ORPHAN

The Orphan was a doll once owned by a young girl named Amelie. Amelie lived in the slums of New Orleans at the turn of the century, where she was raised by her poor grandmother. Taught to knit and sew by grandmother, she made the doll herself and liked to dream that it was real. When grandmother passed away she was forced to live with her abusive and drunken uncle. Amidst his carelessness and cruelty, the doll became Amelie's only friend, and only escape. One night in one of uncle's rages, young Amelie was killed. the next evening, as if the young girl's wish was heard in death, the doll magically awakened. Saddened by the loss of the very one who dreamed her, she killed the uncle in his sleep, sewing his eyes and mouth shut...
